One thing that I know about myself is that I am a sucker for good marketing (I guess who isn’t, right? But call something “seasonal” or “limited edition” and I am interested.) Every time I open Facebook I try to scroll right through the advertisements, knowing that they’re a slippery slope, and generally speaking I’m able to control myself.
However. There are three things that I’ve purchased in the last nine months or so that I love, two of which came highly recommended from friends whose opinions I trust. If your Facebook feed is anything like mine, you’ve probably seen the same ads, and you might be wondering if the products are any good. Let me tell you what I got and what I think of them.

Rothy’s shoes. Specifically, the leopard print points (order half a size up, please.) I have lived in these babies since I ordered them last winter. I plan to give more details on my opinion on Rothy’s v. Tieks (with a hat tip to Allbirds thrown in, because I’ve tried them all), but suffice it to say that these shoes are in heavy rotation in my wardrobe. Yes, I wear them sockless, which means that they get a bit stinky. The wonderful thing about these shoes is that you can throw them in the washing machine and they’re as good as new. I am a convert, and if you’re thinking of trying a pair, use this code to get $20 off.

Summersalt Sidestroke swimsuit. I’m 37 years old now, and a mom, and I needed a bit more coverage than I was getting from my beloved Target bikinis. After a girlfriend of mine shared similar concerns, including the story of her husband hissing at her that her swimsuit was inappropriate (which made me lol), and then told me how much she loves this suit, I decided to try it. My only criticism is that I wore it to take Eddie to swim lessons last week and when he gets rambunctious he tends to pull down on the side without a strap, so I had to be mindful to avoid a wardrobe malfunction. But this suit is well-made, gives me the coverage that I want with the support that I need, and it’s cute and has traveled with me from Maine to Phoenix this summer. Big fan. I got a size 12 in sea urchin & atlantic & white sand.

Daily Harvest smoothies, oat bowls, harvest bowls, and soups. This was the marketing campaign that I avoided for the longest time, although this is the one that was probably the most inevitable. I love a smoothie and several times a week I make my own concoction with half a frozen banana, handfuls of spinach, protein and collagen powders, and either nut butter or avocado for that healthy fat. I knew that when Baby 2 comes in November I’m going to want to be able to grab a quick healthy snack, and these smoothies are perfect for that. I ordered a box of 24 and have been slowly making my way through, keeping notes on what I love and what I don’t so I know what to reorder. So far, the banana and greens smoothie and cinnamon protein and banana oat bowl are my favorites. I still add extra protein, fats, and spinach to bulk up the smoothies a lot of the time.
Have you tried any of these products? What do you think of them? If you haven’t, have you ever fallen prey to other items that Facebook thinks you’ll love?
